winter break 2005 - january
photos taken by nellie. camera used: canon powershot s500.
After I get home from California, I go watch Return of the King
with Sarah, Claire, and Ben. It was terribly fun. Claire made
some awesome joke about the end of the movie involving
euthanasia -- no, elfanasia! It's elf-assisted suicide!

Haha, I told them these were just practice pictures and that they
WEREN'T going on the website. I liiied.

Then... I think a week went by, I did a lot of stuff during then,
but I don't quite remember what... but I went to Chicago
to go visit my friend Nancy from U of I. I was only supposed
to sleep over one night, but we decided it would be way
more awesome if I stayed two. We're eating at a diner called
Salt & Peppa in this picture (for breakfast). That man is pulling
suspicious packages
out of that car. I spent quite some time wondering if they
were drugs. The night before this, I arrived, and we went shopping
for ages. I couldn't find anything I liked that was bargain-y
enough. We went to this totally hipster Asian place for dinner with
Nancy's friend Caitlyn (I think I'm spelling your name wrong). The place?
Was called Ping-Pong. They put our chopsticks on little rocks and the
entire place was decorated white. Then we took a cab, and he
drove through all these alleyways, and we went to go see Kinsey.
We spent a lot of time saying that there should've been way
more interestingfunfacts in that movie if it's going to be about
sex. Then, we took the bus back to Nancy's house and we painted
our nails and looked at pictures.
The whole trip was toooootally awesome.

Uh, Nancy ordered tots.

The next night, we actually made a healthy dinner. From Trader Joe's.
At least it was healthy until Nancy HAD to bust out the Hostess
Cupcakes and Newton-O's for desert.

"No way. Your favorite color is seafoam green, too? Oh man!"
- Nancy and I finding more freakishly weird things we have in
common with each other, besides the music/movies/books
and the fact that we both say "uber" and are a size 10 in
Gap jeans, but sometimes an 8 in the stretch kind.

Then, Nancy's older sister's boyfriend, Tim (who is muy awesome) , invited
us to go see
Jeffrey Eugenides (author of the Virgin Suicides, Middlesex (Pulitzer
winner!)),
and Cary Sheyngart (The Russian Debutante's Handbook) read and speak at
the Abbey Pub. Interestingly enough, Nancy and I got in without
being carded (I think it's because we spruced up ;)). It was really
awesome hearing Cary read, because I have read all three of those
books, so I knew what was goin' on and the such.

Posters at the Abbey Pub. Then, while walking back to the car, it started
pouring like CRAZY nuts, and only in one direction. All three of us
were soaked and cold and it just KEPT on raining. Tim let us go potty
in his apartment.

Drying off in Nancy's house.

Then, Nancy and I decided that the possibility of the ratio of 5 boys
to 2 girls hanging out would be pretty nifty, so I called my friend
Kevin back and we went to go hang out with these
guys at
the
Dunkin' Donuts in River Forest. I don't think I've ever had a conversation
where people talked that rapid-firely about hair and movies. It
was really fun, though, and we were happy to make the 20 minute
drive.

The next morning was Nancy's 19th birthday! My plans to go
get her balloons and candy at the Walgreens before she woke up
failed, so instead I wrote half of "Happy Birthday" out in chocolate
chip pancake batter. Don't worry, Nance, I've got a 20 dollar
Borders card with yo name on it.

Aw! We look terribly cute.

Driving to the Olgivie.

Snowww!

I get home, and my sister has offered me this gift from the
Salvation Army. We decided that the color before this one was
too beige-y, so we bought scarlet red dye and tried to dye it in the
washing machine, but since it's a 100% polyester 1960s shirt, it kinda
just got mauvey. I can't tell if I look preggers in it or not.

Then, my peeps Melinda and Marysa took me out to coffee in Danada,
and for some reason, it was the best coffee run ever.

Melinda was totally not excited about her sparkly Gap scarf.
It's sad when I know it's from Gap, without her telling me,
and that it was originally 39.99$, without her telling me.

Suddenly, Marysa and Melinda start getting way popular.

Yuppiest picture everrrr. Melinda, left, Marysa, right.

Awww. More terribly cute and blurry pictures.
